Episode 416: Council votes themselves a raise
Friday Oct 31, 2025

Friday Round Table!
Craig was joined at the Covent Garden Market studio by former city councillor Cheryl Miller, political insider Devin Munro and former Green Party candidate Carol Dyck.
They discuss councillors in London getting a raise - and severance pay. Clearly it won't be popular politically, but was it needed?
Also, a look at the budget. Mayor Josh Morgan has tabled a buget with an expected 3.6% tax hike in 2026 and 4.7% in 2027.
Good number? Will people in London accept it? This this an "election budget"?
Then, the Ford government is, uh, speeding... to get rid of speed cameras. Are they right? Is the process here a red flag?
The Craig Needles Podcast is brought to you by Downtown London and the Covent Garden Market.

This podcast included a comment about the police budget, and how Police Services returned $ to the city’s budget, (not by reducing costs, but by taking the money from another account). However, what also happened, was an INCREASE in the police budget which no one talks about: (as the London Free Press reported on Sept 11, 2025 Now they are also taking money from the assessment growth fund - which funds other things like parks and new sewers and new roads. ”London police will draw $ million from reserve funds in an effort to reduce next year’s operating budget and ease the burden on city taxpayers.” ”During Thursday’s meeting, police also announced they’re requesting an additional 19 new hires – 14 sworn officers and five civilian staff – for next year at a cost of $ million through the city’s assessment growth fund, money generated from the expansion in the city’s property-tax base.”
